What is a Dietitian?
Accredited Practising Dietitians (APD’s) provide patients with valuable strategies to assist them achieving their dietary and health goals. We like to think of it as a coach for your nutrition!
During a consultation with an APD you will receive guidance in setting realistic goals geared around maintaining a healthy well balanced approach to diet. A dietitian’s broad knowledge base assists you as the patient to harness all of the educational resources provided in order to make informed choices regarding your meal choices.

Examples of how our Dietitian can help you:
Trudy a 58-year-old lady presents to a Doveston Health Dietitian under a referral from her Endocrinologist. She was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus in her 40’s and has failed to manage the condition earlier. Her endocrinologist has provided a dietitian referral in order to manage her Elevated Blood Glucose Levels and body mass in order to prevent the need for use of insulin. The Dietitian will review the patient’s medical history and endocrinologist’s report (including any results of relevant pathology investigations such as hba1C) in order to assess the patient’s current risk profile. The patient’s Dietary habits and medications will be reviewed to develop a safe and effective meal plan/guideline so as to promote healthy eating and a balanced approach. It is important that any dietary advice is tailored to your individual needs. The Dietitian will consider personal health and lifestyle influences and help to separate the facts from the myths surrounding diet and diabetes.
